Friends and neighbors,

We’re just a little over a week away from our first town hall of 2024!

Join Reps. Lillian Ortiz-Self and Strom Peterson and me from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Kamiak High School Performing Arts Center, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd. in Mukilteo. We’ll answer questions on the 2024 session and our work in Olympia to support our district.

We hope to see you there!

Exciting bill update

Did you know communities near Paine Field in Everett suffer from some of the worst air quality in the state? The neighborhood where I grew up was one of many overburdened by air pollution.

This experience is part of what led me to sponsor Senate Bill 6114, which just cleared the Transportation Committee Monday. It requires airport operators to make sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blends available to noncommercial, private jet owners with the goal of ultimately having all jet owners in Washington use this renewable fuel.

The detrimental impacts of air pollution are crystal clear in higher rates of asthma and an increased risk of stroke, lung cancer and other serious ailments. Requiring sustainable, renewable fuels for private jets is one way to help reverse these risks for future generations while also reducing our carbon footprint.
