Week 12 brings with it another key deadline as the opposite house policy committee cutoff arrives Wednesday. House bills that haven’t been voted out of Senate policy committees by adjournment that day can no longer be considered during the 2025 session. Wednesday also marks the beginning of an extended stretch of floor action, expected to run through Saturday with the likely passage of the 2025–27 capital budget.

FIXING WASHINGTON’S BROKEN TAX CODE

The Ways & Means Committee will hear public testimony on a slate of legislation aimed at fixing Washington’s broken tax code and funding public schools, health care and safety net programs. Bills being heard Monday include:

  • SB 5795 Sales tax cut (Krishnadasan)
  • SB 5797 Financial Intangibles Tax for school funding (Frame)
  • SB 5796 Removing the cap on the employer payroll tax to fund schools, health care and safety net programs (Saldaña)
  • SB 5798 Property tax reform (Pedersen)
  • SB 5794 Closing tax loopholes (Salomon)
