OLYMPIA – Sen. Marko Liias’ (D-Everett) legislation to authorize tolling on the Interstate 5 Bridge has been signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee.

Passage of Senate Bill 5765 is the next step in Washington’s effort to replace the I-5 Bridge. This legislation simply authorizes tolling along the bridge; it does not set a cost, nor does it state when tolling will go into effect.

“Over the past two legislative sessions, the Washington Legislature has taken tremendous steps to affirm our commitment to replacing the I-5 Bridge. This project has long been a priority for us and authorizing tolling marks the next big step forward in our efforts to making our goals a reality,” Liias said.

“Tolls helped pay for the bridge that stands today, and tolls will be what helps achieve our goal of replacing it,” Sen. Annette Cleveland (D-Vancouver) said. “Tolling provides a fair and equitable way to fund this essential project, which in turn ensures its long-term viability for future generations.”
