OLYMPIA — Logan Christy, a freshman at Bothell High School, served as a page with the Washington State Senate the week of April 10. Sen. Derek Stanford (D-Bothell) sponsored his week at the Legislature.
The page program offers a week of interactive learning about how state government works. Pages get to witness committee hearings, sit in on floor debates, and deliver materials for Senate staff.
Christy applied to the program because his brother mentioned it to him after going on a field trip here.
“My brother went on a field trip here and he introduced it to me, and I thought it would sound interesting to learn about the legislation under discussion.”
Christy’s favorite part is being on the Senate floor and watching the debates.
He sponsored a bill for his page program’s mock committee regarding the age to vote.
Christy also would recommend the program to potential candidates in the future “because it’s a great opportunity to see what it’s like in the Capitol.”
Christy said he’s thinking about majoring in a STEM field.
Stanford said, “I appreciate Logan’s enthusiasm and curiosity, and I want to thank him for serving our state this past week.”
