Dear neighbors,

If you’re getting this e-newsletter for the first time, welcome! I’m Derek Stanford, your state senator from the 1st Legislative District. I send these email updates a few times during the legislative session and periodically when we’re out of session to keep you informed about what your public officials are doing on your behalf.

I am a more effective voice for you when you share your ideas and opinions with me and my team. You can do that by emailing me here

However, if you do not want to receive my occasional email updates, simply click here and you’ll be removed from this email list.

We’re halfway through the 2021 legislative session, and my seatmates and I want to hear from you.

Please join all three lawmakers from the 1st District—Rep. Shelley Kloba, Rep. Davina Duerr and me—for a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 10.

This is our chance to report on major issues before the Legislature and hear your ideas, comments and questions so that we can best represent you in Olympia. You can submit questions live in the comment sections or ahead of time at

You can watch or participate in the live event online. ASL translation will be available on all streams, and there will be a Spanish-language translation on the Senate Democratic Caucus YouTube (see below). The livestream will not be available until the event begins at 6:30 on Wednesday, March 10.
