Video Update from Olympia
My colleagues in the Senate and I continue to work hard to promote important legislation. Click here to hear about some of the issues we’ve been working on.
SAVE THE DATE
100 percent clean energy
Last week on the Senate floor, we passed SB 5116, which will transition our economy from fossil fuels to a clean, affordable and reliable energy future. I voted for this bill because it builds Washington’s clean energy economy by incentivizing wind, solar and tidal power.
We are already experiencing climate change in our Pacific Northwest. The way we respond to climate change will define our and our children’s future. I urge you to join me in supporting this bill as it moves through the House.
Prescription drug cost transparency
We need to act now to stop the rise in prescription drug prices. In the Senate last week, we passed SB 5292 to increase the transparency of prescription drug costs. This bill gives us more information about drug costs and will work to leverage more reasonable drug prices. I look forward to continuing to work on reducing prescription drug costs as this session continues.
Worker safety and training
Washington workers deserve to be treated fairly and work under safe conditions. I cosponsored SB 5698 to strengthen safety requirements to make sure workers in high-hazard facilities such as our state’s oil refineries have adequate safety training. As a former union member myself, I know we must support workers and allow them to continue to drive our economy forward. The House companion to this bill made it through the House and will soon be taken up in the Senate.
I will continue working on these issues, and more, as a member of both the Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee and the Law & Justice Committee, and as vice chair of both the Local Government and the Agriculture, Water, Natural Resources & Parks committees.
I want to hear what you feel is important and how our Legislature can do more to put people first. I encourage you to contact my office or visit Olympia.
Thank you,
