Sen. Claire Wilson (D-Auburn) was named co-chair of the Department of Children, Youth and Families Oversight Board on Tuesday.
Wilson, who serves as chair of the Senate Human Services Committee, has been a member of the board since 2022 and will serve a two-year term.
The DCYF Oversight Board consists of state lawmakers, child welfare and juvenile rehabilitation experts, youth physicians, as well as parent and foster parent representatives. The board monitors and ensures that DCYF achieves the outcomes intended by its enabling legislation and ensures the department complies with relevant rules, statues, and policies related to juvenile rehabilitation and juvenile justice, as well as children and family services.
“Ensuring the well-being and protection of our youth has always been a priority of mine and I am honored to continue my work in this effort in my new role as co-chair of the DCYF Oversight Board,” Sen. Wilson said. “I look forward to helping lead this group of devoted individuals in our advocacy for positive change and fostering a brighter future for the children and families entrusted to our care.”
Wilson will serve in her role alongside co-chair Dr. Diane Liebe.
