Dear friends and neighbors,

We are wrapping up the 10th week of the legislative session, and I want to give you a quick update on the work of our office and share some useful information!

House of origin cutoff

March 12 was the house of origin cutoff. This is a key legislative deadline that marks when bills needed to pass out of their original chamber in order to continue advancing. I call this the “rinse and repeat” cycle because 12 of my bills are now in the House going through the same process they did in the Senate. These bills focus on removing barriers to early learning programs, addressing gaps in juvenile rehabilitation facilities and the Department of Corrections, providing essential services to some our most vulnerable residents, and supporting students, teachers, schools, and parents.

It’s not too late to join the Page Program

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Shay’lin Duncan-Tymas as our office page! Shay’lin is from Federal Way High School, and she was a huge help this week. It’s not too late to join the Page Program! Serving as a page is a fun opportunity to earn valuable legislative experience. It’s more important than ever young people get more involved in civic engagement and the legislative process! If you have any questions or would like to request sponsorship, please reach out to me at claire.wilson@leg.wa.gov.

The Legislative Youth Advisory Council

Do you know a 14–18-year-old interested in getting more involved with shaping state policy? The Legislative Advisory Council (LYAC) is currently accepting applications for their 2025-2027 cohort! LYAC is the official nonpartisan youth advisory body to the Legislature and is empowered by state law to ensure the interests and opinions of Washington state youth are heard. You can find the application by visiting https://walyac.org/apply.

Thank you, Joseph!

Today marks the last day of our amazing intern this session — Joseph! He was instrumental in tracking legislation, meeting with constituents, and helping us manage the nearly 11,000 emails received so far. His favorite experience was meeting with constituents and advocates. He also participated in a mock legislative session, where he moved a bill through the legislative process — from writing amendments and caucusing to committee meetings and floor action. We will miss Joseph!
