Sen. Steve Conway, D-South Tacoma, issued the following statement today regarding the hearing of an anti-teacher bill before the Senate Commerce & Labor Committee:
“I am disappointed that instead of working on coming to an agreement on our state’s budgets certain members of the Senate decided to work on legislation that is non-substantial, illegal and punitive in nature.
“Today, I proudly joined my Democratic colleagues in excusing ourselves from a scheduled hearing on a retaliatory proposal to punish teachers for their decision to participate in a one-day walkout.
“We should be working on funding K-12 education not punishing educators.”
