Dear friends and neighbors,

The Legislative interim (the time between Legislative sessions) allows legislators to spend more time in their communities educating, learning, and connecting. Over the last couple of months, I have had the opportunity to engage with Spokane constituents and celebrate community wins, including those below.

Leadership Spokane

I always appreciate the chance to address the Leadership Spokane graduating class, and this year was no exception. Leadership Spokane is a year-long program designed to support a wide variety of Spokane leaders. As in past years, I talked about the intersection of government and business, and, as usual, we had a robust discussion with lots of good questions from the group.

Children of the Sun Trail ribbon cutting

Last month, the community celebrated another completed section of the Children of the Sun Trail, the bike and pedestrian trail along the North Spokane Corridor. When completed, the trail will run parallel to the 10.5 miles of the North-South Freeway, allowing for a safer and healthier community as well as increased access to the Centennial Trail.

Mobius Discovery Center tour

During interim, I often get to go on tours to better understand work that is being done around Spokane. I recently joined my fellow 3rd LD legislators on a tour of the Mobius Discovery Center, Spokane’s downtown children’s museum that offers hands-on play and learning experiences. Our 2023 operating budget allocated $100,000 for both 2024 and 2025 to allow Mobius to expand their STEM educational outreach to students in rural, tribal, and low-income communities.
