This year, the legislature has been focused on bills that provide COVID-19 relief and spur economic recovery. We have acted quickly to prioritize these bills in the first few weeks of session. There is more work to do, but I am pleased with the progress we have made so far.

  • COVID-19 relief (HB 1367 and HB 1368): $2.2 billion COVID-19 relief that would expand testing and vaccine availability, extend support to schools, provide grants for small businesses, give rental assistance to tenants & landlords, create childcare grants, and help thousands meet basic needs with housing and food assistance.

Status: Passed out of House and planned for Senate floor action today.

  • Unemployment relief (SB 5061): Provides relief for businesses from unemployment insurance tax increases caused by the pandemic and provides increased benefits for some unemployed workers.

Status: Signed into law.

  • Liquor license fees (SB 5272): Waives liquor license fees for distressed businesses impacted by the pandemic.

Status: Passed out of Senate. Awaiting House action.

  • B&O tax relief (HB 1095): Exempts federal funds received via the Paycheck Protection Program from being subject to B&O taxes.

Status: Passed out of the House and planned for Senate floor action today.

Unclaimed Property Program (UPP)

Each year, the Department of Revenue requires banks and other financial institutions to turn over assets if they have lost track of the owners for an extended period of time. The UPP is a free service that reunites these assets with their rightful owners. This includes things like:

  • Uncashed checks
  • Utility deposits
  • Bank accounts
  • The contents of a safety deposit box
