OLYMPIA – The Senate just passed SB 5974— Move Ahead Washington, which would allocate $16.8 billion over 16 years to prioritize the transportation sector of our state with unprecedented investments and reduce our carbon footprint.
“A huge investment I am thrilled about, is a new policy to allow kids to ride free on all public transportation,” said Sen. Claire Wilson (D-Federal Way). “That means kids ride free on all buses, ferries, and trains statewide. This policy will cut costs for many families by ensuring their kids have free, safe and reliable public transit to and from school.”
In addition, this bill will pay for many investments unique to the 30th Legislative District which include:
• $507 million for transit access distribution of King County Metro
• $433 million for the new freeway (SR 167/SR 509 Puget Sound Gateway) from Tacoma to Puyallup
• $380 million for I-405/SR167 Lynwood to Tukwila corridor improvements
• $30 million for City Center access project
• $20 million for Link Light Rail access (S 356th Street)
Move Ahead Washington will invest in the long-delayed maintenance on existing transportation infrastructure and improve transportation options for all our communities. This package will bring forward a brighter future for our environment and communities by providing safe, sustainable, and equitable transit options.
