Senator Vandana Slatter

48th Legislative District
D-Bellevue

Dr. Vandana Slatter (D-Bellevue) was appointed to the Washington State Senate in 2025, she represents the 48th Legislative District, which includes parts of Bellevue, Redmond, and Kirkland, and all of Clyde Hill, Medina, Yarrow Point, and Hunts Point. Slatter previously served four consecutive terms in the Washington State House of Representatives.  

While in the House, Dr. Slatter passed important legislation, such as expanding access to post secondary education for low-income students, protecting the privacy of reproductive and health data of those seeking care, creating the Washington Health Corps to connect medical professionals with underserved communities, and ensuring Washington’s emission reduction targets align with science.  

Prior to joining the Washington State Legislature, Dr. Slatter served as a Bellevue city councilmember. She is a licensed pharmacist in Washington state, and for over 20 years, she was a clinical scientist at multiple leading biotech companies. She also worked as a SEIU hospital pharmacist at Battle Creek Health Systems in Michigan. In 2007, she was appointed by Gov. Christine Gregoire to a four-year term on the Washington State Board of Pharmacy. She now serves on the boards of the Ruckelshaus Center, the Evans School Dean’s Advisory Council, and the Hopelink Foundation.  

Slatter received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia (UBC); a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Washington; and a Master of Public Administration from the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington. While studying at UBC, Slatter was captain of the women’s varsity fencing team and a gold medalist at the BC Junior Women’s foil championships.  

Dr. Slatter’s professional background in medicine has inspired her dedication to expanding access to healthcare and defending reproductive freedoms. In addition, Dr. Slatter is committed to improving higher education and workforce development because an investment in post-secondary education is an investment in Washington’s future. She has also prioritized protecting our environment, combating climate change, and growing our green economy. 

Dr. Slatter serves as vice chair of the Environment, Energy & Technology Committee and as a member on the Health & Long-Term Care and Higher Education & Workforce Development committees.  

She and her husband, Greg, have lived in Bellevue since 2003.
