Dear friends and neighbors,

Quick e-news to let you know I was sworn in on Friday as the newest member of the Washington State Senate! Judge Cecily Hazelrigg was able to swear me into office at the Whatcom County Courthouse with some family and friends present.

On the campaign trail, I had the opportunity to speak with thousands of our neighbors. It’s clear, we have a lot of important work to do. I plan to continue to lead on many of the same issues that I worked on in the state House – housing affordability, smart energy policy, early learning, flood response and recovery, jobs, and public safety, and more.

I can also share that my new colleagues in the Senate have nominated me to serve as Vice Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, helping to set statewide transportation policy and budgets, as well as to sit on the Senate Housing Committee and the Senate Agriculture, Water, Natural Resources & Parks Committee, so I will have to opportunity to contribute towards many of the critical issues that we’re facing here in the 42nd District and across Washington state.

I’m honored by the trust the voters placed in me. And I commit to representing each and every one of my constituents, regardless of their party affiliation or who you voted for.

The 2023 legislative session begins on January 9th and we have a lot to do. My email stays the same so if you have any questions about any of the issues coming before the Legislature this year, feel free to contact me at any time at sharon.shewmake@leg.wa.gov.

Stay well,

Sen. Sharon Shewmake
