Dear friends and neighbors,

We are now over two-thirds of the way through the 105-day legislative session, and as of yesterday, we’ve hit another major landmark: the Senate released our 2021-2023 budget proposal! As Vice Chair of the Ways & Means Committee, it is a privilege to help write an equitable budget that makes meaningful investments to support Washington families.

With the help of $7 billion from the American Rescue Plan to bring targeted relief to those who were hit hardest by the pandemic, this unprecedented $59.2 billion budget also increases funding for critical state services and stabilizes our K-12 school system, healthcare system, and workforce.

The creation of this budget was driven by the voices of our neighbors. I’m grateful to you and to our community members all over the state who shared concerns and priorities with us so that we could build the best, most equitable, most effective budget for all.

If you’re interested in a more in-depth summary of the budget proposal, click here. You can also always reach out to my team if you have questions.

And – some good news to start off your weekend! As of today, three million vaccines have been administered in our state and one million Washingtonians are now fully vaccinated. This is a huge milestone in our work to overcome this pandemic’s impact on our loved ones and our economy. You can also click here or on the image above to head to the Washington State Department of Health’s vaccine locator tool to get signed up for an appointment near you.
