Friends, neighbors —
Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision — a landmark ruling that came three years after Washingtonians passed a ballot measure legalizing abortion.
Since then, we’ve only continued to strengthen abortion access. Our state’s long history of safeguarding reproductive freedom is part of why I’m so proud to call Washington home and honored to have played a role in expanding access to care.
On Tuesday, several policy measures to further protect and expand access to abortion and reproductive health care were unveiled, including one of my own — the Keep Our Care Act. Thank you to everyone who shared their personal and powerful stories with the committee!
After the hearing, I joined many of my colleagues and our friends at Pro-Choice Washington to rally for Reproductive Justice. As other states severely ban or restrict access to abortion and gender-affirming care, we will always fight to ensure all our neighbors can access the care they need when they need it (you can watch coverage of the event here). We know there is more to do protect reproductive freedom — and that’s exactly what we are trying to do this session, so Washington can continue to be a safety net for anyone in need. ✊🏽
