Dear neighbors,

The short version is: if you would like to help reduce noise and air pollution around Sea-Tac Airport, click these bill numbers and register your support for Senate Bill 5955 and House Bill 2103 before Tuesday.

For the longer version, read on.

For years, my seatmates and I have heard stories from constituents about the negative effects that noise and air pollution from Sea-Tac Airport have on them and their families. More than a decade ago, the Port of Seattle used federal money to provide some residents with sound-dampening windows and other mitigations, but unfortunately many of these have failed. You can see the window they installed for Mr. Lee many years ago — it’s full of mold between the panes, but he has been on a waiting list for a replacement for eight years.

Time after time, we have held town halls and asked and petitioned the Port for relief. But all we get are assurances and promises — no action. So it’s time to take legislative action.

Rep. Tina Orwall and I are sponsoring SB 5955 (HB 2103), which would require the Port to use part of its property tax revenues to mitigate the effects of noise and air pollution on people who live near the airport. We’re having a press conference Monday morning at 9 am to raise awareness, which you can watch on TVW at this link.

Here’s how you can help: sign in to testify in support (in person, online, or in writing) at the hearing for either the Senate or House version of the bill (both versions are exactly the same). Both hearings are on Tuesday, Jan. 16:

Thank you for making a difference to your community!

Always,
