Dear friends and neighbors,

I’m happy to welcome my colleagues back to our district as we get ready to kick off the 2024 legislative session on Jan. 8.

During the last session we approved our biennial budgets, and this year, we’ll consider new policies and supplemental budgets. This 60-day session will be about building upon the work we started — like our major investments into affordable housing, behavioral health and expanded access to childcare.

As the chair of the State Government & Elections Committee, and as a member of the Early Learning & K-12 and Ways & Means committees, my main priorities are maintaining safe, secure and convenient elections, and ensuring we keep strengthening our education system.

Senate page program

Senator Hunt with Page Shay Velmurugan. April 14, 2023.

Do you know a student 14-16 years old who may be interested in spending a week learning about state government? Encourage them to apply to the Senate page program! Pages spend their week learning about the legislative process, while distributing materials throughout the Capitol Campus, assisting offices, delivering messages and working on the Senate floor. They get to learn about all aspects of state government in Page School. Applications are open now through Feb. 9. Learn more about the program here.
