Upon the announcement of the U. S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade today in the Dobbs v. Jackson case, Sen. Manka Dhingra (D-Redmond) released this statement:
“Abortion care is healthcare. Today the Supreme Court rolled back 50 years of precedent and took away rights that women have counted on for generations.
“Here in Washington state, we will continue to stand up to protect choice, through words and actions. Washington voters have shown time and again their strong support for the right to choose.
“In the last five years, through the Reproductive Parity Act, the Reproductive Health Access for All Act, and other legislation, the Legislature has have worked to extend to all Washingtonians access to a full range of reproductive health care and the privacy to make their own decisions.
“We will continue to protect those rights in our state, take additional steps to expand access, and extend a hand in support to those in other states who are forced to come here for the health care they will be denied after this decision.”
