To my community –

The cherry blossoms are blooming, the daffodils are showing their faces, and the days are getting longer. To me, these beautiful signs of spring signal warm and wonderful days ahead spent with loved ones outdoors – and they are also a clue that state lawmakers have finished our 2022 legislative session and have returned home to our communities to report back on what we accomplished alongside you.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS and round out the month of April with me for another Virtual Town Hall – Wednesday, April 27, from 6pm-7pm – with my colleagues, Speaker Jinkins and Rep. Fey! We are eager to touch base with you in real time, live on Facebook, to share 2022 session news and to hear your thoughts about what we got done and what we need to keep working on.

What questions do you have for me? What ideas do you want to keep partnering on together? Click on the image BELOW to send in your thoughts and questions for us to address during our town hall!

Of the bills I introduced this year – on everything ranging from healthcare access to housing supports – here is what we sent to the governor’s desk to get signed into law!

  • SB 5749, requiring landlords to accept both electronic and non-electronic forms of rent payment
  • SB 5583, ending the practicing of prison gerrymandering at the local level in alignment with state and congressional redistricting practices
  • SB 5883, making it easier for young people experiencing homelessness to consent to the healthcare support that they want and need
  • SB 5702, requiring healthcare coverage of donor human milk so that more new parents and their littlest family member can affordably access this important health resource
  • SB 5755, incentivizing land redevelopment in urban areas to help address our state’s lack of affordable housing
  • Washington Future Fund budget proviso, funding wealth inequity studies to pave a path toward a financial program that will lift up young Washingtonians born with the least

We also passed a bold, strategic supplemental budget that funded and sustained so many of our neighbors’ priorities. Some highlights include:

  • $90 million to get more nurses and counselors in our schools so we can better meet students’ health needs
  • $350 million to strengthen our Paid Family & Medical Leave system
  • $45 million for rental assistance to help families keep a roof over their heads
  • $71 million for programs that will help our state’s Main Street small businesses recover
  • $345 million to stabilize school districts that experienced enrollment declines during the pandemic
  • $14.9 million to support facilities that serve youth experiencing homelessness

I am so proud to serve a community that has poured so much into me so that I could flourish, chase my dreams, and raise a family here. That is what I want for every other person lucky enough to call LD 27 and Washington state home. Together we are building a better, healthier, more inclusive state where people can pursue the lives they want for themselves and their families.

Questions or thoughts about any of the above? You can reach me any time (I have made as many channels available as possible) so that we can put our heads together and fight for our neighbors’ priorities. I want to hear from you! This work cannot happen without you.
