To my community –
We’re now halfway through the legislative session, and I can’t wait to connect with you to get your questions, hear your thoughts, and share updates on our community’s priorities as they move through the legislature.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for my first town hall, alongside my colleagues Speaker Laurie Jinkins and Representative Jake Fey!
We’re eager to touch base with you in real time, live on Facebook. What questions do you have for me? What ideas do you want to keep partnering on together? Click on the image BELOW to send in your thoughts and questions for us to address during our town hall!

Of the bills I introduced so far – on everything ranging from healthcare access to housing supports – here’s what we’ve passed through the Senate and sent on to the House:
- SB 5749, requiring landlords to accept both electronic and non-electronic forms of rent payment passed unanimously!
- SB 5583, ending the practicing of prison gerrymandering at the local level in alignment with state and congressional redistricting practices, passed 28-21!
- SB 5596, a bill – championed by mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and social workers – that makes a small chance to disclosure restrictions to make it easier for them to serve our communities passed unanimously!
- SB 5609, making our court system both more efficient and more compassionate for young people by ending an unnecessary and duplicative juvenile fingerprinting process at final dispositions, passed 29-20!
- SB 5883, making it easier for young people experiencing homelessness to consent to the healthcare support that they want and need, passed the Senate 28-21!
- SB 5884, a bill to expand our behavioral health workforce opportunities state-wide and deliver low-intensity, structured interventions to patients when they need it, where they need it. It passed today on a unanimous vote!
I’m so proud of how our community has shown up for our shared priorities. Together we’re building a better, healthier, more inclusive Washington where people can pursue the lives they want for themselves and their families.
And of course, I wouldn’t be able to do this work on behalf of our neighbors and our state without my fantastic team. Please meet Lisa, my incredible legislative aide; Tonya, my outstanding session aide; Catalina, my wonderful intern; and Hannah, my awesome communications staffer. Together, this team of dedicated public servants helps us stay connected and on track to fight for our shared values. I’m honored to work with all four of them this year. Go Team!
Questions or thoughts about any of the above? You can reach me any time (I’ve made as many channels available as possible) so that we can put our heads together and fight for our neighbors’ priorities. I want to hear from you! This work can’t happen without you. Click here to visit my website or follow/contact me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, or by email (Yasmin.Trudeau@leg.wa.gov) or phone (360-786-7652). I can’t wait to meet you. Let’s get to work.
In service and solidarity,
Yasmin
