To my community –
It is my honor and privilege to introduce myself as both your neighbor and your newest state senator! My name is Yasmin Trudeau, and on November 2, I was appointed by the Pierce County Council to carry on the incredible legacy of retiring senator Jeannie Darneille.
I sought this opportunity because I want to bring my lived and professional experience to serve my community. I bring with me the perspective of a mama of a toddler and soon-to-be new little one, a former foster youth and homeless student, and an attorney and advocate who has worked for many years to champion system reforms and a stronger housing and human services safety net.
I believe – I know – that our community is second-to-none when it comes to supporting and building one another up, and that we can do even more to create the Washington we dream of, where all can thrive. My goal is simple. I want to pass policies that uplift us all and allow each member of this community to show up as their best selves so we can thrive together.
AND: I’m ready to hit the ground running. The legislative session starts on Monday, January 10, and I’ve already prefiled several bills! They include policies supporting maternal and fetal health, linking data systems related to violent crime with public health entities, creating a more equitable democracy, reducing arbitrary barriers to making rental payments, developing incentives for intentional affordable housing options and providing economic opportunity for some of our most vulnerable youth (read some highlights about them here). And I have more in the works – all of which are policies that came about because a member of our community raised their voice, pointed out a problem, and suggested a solution.
The most important thing I want you to know is that you can reach me any time (I’ve made as many channels available as possible) so that we can put our heads together and fight for our neighbors’ priorities. I want to hear from you! This work can’t happen without you.

In service and solidarity,
