Sen. June Robinson (D-Everett) was elected chair of the Senate Ways & Means Committee following a vote of the Senate Democratic Caucus on Thursday.
“I am honored to have the trust of the Senate Democratic Caucus in being chosen for this key position and feel well prepared to step into this role, given my knowledge of the issues and experience writing and negotiating state budgets,” Robinson said.
“Washington state has a healthy economy. We have shown time and again through hard work and innovation our state is leading the way. That said, there are many challenges that will strain resources for the state in the upcoming years. We must address gaps in behavioral health care, respond to unprecedented levels of people unable to afford housing, protect our environment, and continue to adequately fund our K-12 education system. But I am ready and eager to tackle these issues and more alongside my colleagues.”
Robinson served as vice chair of the Ways & Means Committee after being appointed to the Senate in 2020. As vice chair of the committee, she was the budget lead on Operating & Revenue. Robinson was first appointed to the House in 2013, where she also served as vice chair of the Appropriations Committee for four years.
Robinson’s position and the rest of the 2024 committee assignments will become official after a vote of the full Senate on Jan. 8, the first day of the 60-day session.
