Dear friends and neighbors,

As our community continues recovering from last month’s devastating fires, I am inspired by the generosity and compassion of our community. It was awesome to see so much support for students as they return to school, especially those who were impacted by the fires.

I enjoyed helping hand out school supplies and essentials at the North YMCA and Northeast Community Center to families impacted by the fires – backpacks, shoes, lunch boxes and more.

Working for more federal assistance

Last week, I joined other policymakers from all levels of government – city, county, state, & tribal – in various meetings with Gov. Bob Ferguson, Lt. Gov. Denny Heck, and U.S. Sen. Patty Murray. The conversations I engaged in had elected officials from all ends of the political spectrum united with one common purpose – to make the strongest case for a major disaster declaration that would make it possible to receive significant federal assistance. I am committed to doing everything I can to help ensure we get as many resources as possible to help fire victims and our broader region recover.
