Dear friends and neighbors,
Your 3rd Legislative District legislators will be hosting a mobile office on Sept. 19 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the classroom at the Shadle Park Library (2111 W Wellesley Ave, Spokane, WA 99205).
These events are a great way to connect directly, share your ideas, and discuss the issues most important to our community. At the mobile office, we’ll talk about recent projects in our district, hear your feedback, and ensure your voice is part of the legislative process. Join us this Friday for one-on-one and small group discussions.

Constituent input shapes the work I do every day. For example, in 2019 I introduced and passed a constituent-inspired bill. House bill 1197 made vehicle license plates and fees free for Gold Star families. Gold Star families are parents, spouses or other relatives of U.S. troops killed in action or related support action. This bill was created after a Spokane Gold Star family contacted me regarding a computer glitch that occurred when they tried to renew their Gold Star plates online. The glitch forced their family and others to re-verify their Gold Star qualifications at a Department of Licensing office. This bill was heard and passed in the House Committee on Transportation on the same day, showing the importance and value of bringing constituent experiences and concerns to the Legislature. This is one example of how collaboration with community members directly influences the policies we advance. A robust democracy can only exist with an active and engaged citizenry. If you have thoughts on policy areas or community needs, please bring them to the mobile office or reach out to me anytime. Your ideas make a difference.
Local Projects Update

Senator Riccelli with Volunteers of America Eastern Washington CEO Fawn Schott at the ribbon cutting for Crosswalk.
I have worked with other legislators since 2019 to secure $7.2 million in state funding for the Volunteers of America Crosswalk facility’s new location near Spokane Community College. After nearly 40 years in downtown Spokane, VOA is excited to open their new location within close proximity to a health clinic, educational opportunities, and the STA Central City Line. The shelter was designed by youth, for youth, and will provide unhoused youth in Spokane with the resources and the space they need to thrive. When they open their doors later this fall, Crosswalk 2.0 will serve as a lifesaving resource for youth experiencing homelessness in our community. Last month, I was honored to cut the ribbon on the new shelter with the incredible team of community leaders who made this project possible. Their dedication and vision are ensuring that young people in Spokane have a safe place to turn for shelter, support, and hope.
