Dear friends and neighbors,
My work representing Spokane in the Legislature wouldn’t be possible without the excellent staff that supports me. They answer your calls to my office, organize my schedule, research policy issues, meet with constituents and lobbyists, and help plan events like the recent town hall at Spokane Falls Community College that attracted nearly 500 people. When the session ends, my legislative assistants will continue to help me serve our community from our district office in Spokane. In this newsletter, I will introduce you to my talented team!
Maddie Sontag (second from left) is my Executive Legislative Assistant. A Colorado native, Maddie moved to Spokane to earn her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Environmental Studies from Gonzaga University. She loves interacting with constituents and learning more about the city that she calls home. In her free time, you can find Maddie running along the Centennial Trail, observing nature at Manito Park, and enjoying at the many delicious restaurants throughout the city.
Bariah Rice (third from left) is my Legislative Assistant. Born and raised in Spokane, she is currently pursuing a Master of Legal Studies in Indigenous Peoples Law through the University of Oklahoma College of Law. She lives on a small farm where she enjoys cooking, caring for her animals, and spending time in nature. Bariah is passionate about community connection and developing opportunities for community members to connect with their elected officials.
Matt Jacobsen (far left) is my intern this session. He is in his last year of studying history and biology at the University of Washington in Seattle. Originally from California, Matt has thoroughly enjoyed learning about Washington and Spokane through his work this session. On the weekends, Matt is most likely at the golf course or out in nature exploring with his dogs. This week I asked Matt a few questions about his experience at the Legislature this year. You can watch that on my Instagram page or Facebook page.
I feel so fortunate to have such a smart and fun team to work with as we tackle the critical issues facing our community and state.
With only a week left in this year’s session, we are busy passing the final bills and working on the state operating, capital and transportation budgets. I’ll be in touch next week with an update on the key bills and investments that will improve lives in Spokane.
It is an honor to serve you!
Sen. Marcus Riccelli
