OLYMPIA – Bill Ramos (D-Issaquah) was sworn in Monday as the 5th Legislative District’s new senator following his November election victory. Ramos succeeds former Sen. Mark Mullet and brings extensive experience to the role.
“I’m excited and honored to continue serving the 5th Legislative District and advocating for policies that support working families, improve transportation, and protect our environment,” Ramos said. “I’m eager to roll up my sleeves and work with my colleagues and community to create a stronger, brighter future for everyone in our state.”
Ramos joined the Washington State Legislature in 2018 as a state representative. During his time in the House, he championed legislation to promote clean energy, expand public transportation, and support working families.
Before serving in the Legislature, Ramos worked as a community planner with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration, where he managed the Tribal Transit Program to improve transportation for tribal communities across the Northwest. He also held leadership positions with the U.S. Forest Service, focusing on ecosystem management, recreation, and public services.
Ramos served on the Issaquah City Council from 2016 to 2019, addressing local issues and supporting the city’s economic vitality. He has also been an active member of the Issaquah Rotary.
In the Senate, Ramos will serve as vice chair of the Transportation Committee and as a member of the Labor & Commerce and Environment, Energy & Technology committees. He is also vice chair of the Latino Democratic Caucus and a member of the Senate Members of Color Caucus.
The 5th Legislative District includes Black Diamond, Issaquah, Maple Valley, Renton, Sammamish, Snoqualmie, and Enumclaw, as well as unincorporated areas such as Auburn, Covington, Kent, Fall City, Hobart, North Bend, and Preston.
The 105-day 2025 legislative session started Monday.
