data-contrast=\"auto\">I\u2019m\u00a0also happy to share\u00a0the Senate\u00a0unanimously\u00a0passed\u00a0two more of my bills this week\u00a0\u2014\u00a0and\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0both focused on keeping\u00a0Washingtonians\u00a0safe and housed.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5938&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">SB 5938<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0would strengthen our state&#8217;s foreclosure-prevention efforts, as well as explore the possibility of creating a homeowner\u00a0assistance\u00a0fund to help people\u00a0who\u2019ve\u00a0exhausted all available options to remain in their homes.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5957&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">SB 5957<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0would expand our state&#8217;s Office of Homeless Youth Prevention and Protection Programs Advisory Committee to ensure\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0including people with lived experience as homeless youth to help\u00a0advise\u00a0our state&#8217;s\u00a0homeless-prevention\u00a0work.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">With more legislative deadlines on the horizon during this short session,\u00a0I will continue to fight for these bills as well as other legislation that\u00a0addresses\u00a0our state\u2019s affordability\u00a0and housing\u00a0crisis,\u00a0protects\u00a0us\u00a0from\u00a0the federal government\u2019s\u00a0hostility,\u00a0and builds a sustainable budget\u00a0that\u00a0preserves essential services.\u00a0\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Standing up for immigrants\u00a0and\u00a0holding ICE accountable<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Like many of you, I am horrified by the violence and\u00a0civil rights violations\u00a0that ICE agents are committing in our communities and states like Minnesota.\u00a0Disturbing images and videos of masked agents forcefully detaining people and making warrantless arrests have left too many of our law-abiding immigrant neighbors living in fear of deportation.\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While the Legislature has limited ability to control federal immigration enforcement \u2014 and we cannot stop ICE from coming to our state \u2014 we must do everything we can to protect everyone who calls Washington home.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why I and\u00a0many of my\u00a0Senate colleagues\u00a0are sponsoring bills\u00a0to bring\u00a0additional\u00a0transparency, accountability, and protection from the terror ICE is inflicting on our communities.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Last week, I was proud to vote for\u00a0one of Senate Democrats\u2019 priority immigration-focused\u00a0bills: <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary\/?BillNumber=5855&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">SB 5855<\/a>. This legislation\u00a0prohibits\u00a0local, state, and federal law enforcement officers \u2014 including ICE agents \u2014 from wearing face-concealing masks while interacting with the public.\u00a0Trust in law enforcement depends on transparency and accountability, and this bill ensures people\u00a0know the identity of any law enforcement officer who is exercising government authority over them.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I also support bills\u00a0this session that\u00a0provide state-level protections from immigration enforcement around data privacy and surveillance, notification and security around I-9 forms that employers use to verify immigration status,\u00a0and\u00a0protecting sensitive places like schools, hospitals, and churches.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As we continue to advance immigration-focused bills in the Legislature,\u00a0including my bill to hold ICE detention facilities accountable,\u00a0I hope you will keep contacting your\u00a0state\u00a0representatives\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/members\/find-your-member\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Washington\u2019s federal leaders<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0about your concerns.\u00a0I also hope you will continue\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/leg.wa.gov\/learn-and-participate\/how-to-participate-in-the-lawmaking-process\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">making your voice heard<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0throughout the rest of this year\u2019s legislative session.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Resources for immigrant communities\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to the actions the Legislature is taking this session, Gov.
