I\u2019m also honored to have been selected as caucus vice chair by my Senate Democratic colleagues. I\u2019m proud to join my caucus\u2019 leadership in delivering solutions that put people first.<\/p>\n<p>We only have a 60-day session this year, but I\u2019m going to make the most of it before we adjourn in March. I have 16 priority bills that tackle the tough issues affecting our district. Some highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mitigating the health and environmental impacts on people living near SeaTac airport. SB 5652 a critical bill for our community, and I\u2019m thrilled it\u2019s getting heard in the Senate Environment, Energy &amp; Technology Committee at 8 a.m. on Jan. 21. You can sign up to show your support or testify <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/csi\/Senate?selectedCommittee=28240&amp;selectedMeeting=33721\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Supporting residents and small businesses affected by this winter\u2019s floods. I&#8217;m proud to chair the Flood Caucus that will work on legislative actions for this session to help those impacted in our district and state.<\/li>\n<li>Holding businesses accountable for engaging in human trafficking<\/li>\n<li>Increasing support for homeless youth<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening courtroom protections for survivors of sexual assault<\/li>\n<li>Creating an online resource center for Washingtonians with information about endometriosis, a disease affecting up to 10% of women<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening our state\u2019s 988 suicide and crisis lifeline<\/li>\n<li>Restricting the use of artificial intelligence in making prior authorization determinations in health care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/csi\/Senate?selectedCommittee=28240&amp;selectedMeeting=33721\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3787\" src=\"https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/orwall\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2026\/01\/Orwall_Airport-bill_testimony-2-300x111.png\" alt=\"A graphic encouraging constituents to show support for SB 5652, sponsored by Sen. Our democracy works best when people are empowered to engage, and we have many tools that make it easy to participate in the legislative process.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leg.wa.gov\/bills-meetings-and-session\/bills\/how-to-track-a-bill\/how-to-track-a-bill\/\">track specific bills<\/a>, get\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leg.wa.gov\/about-the-legislature\/committees\/\">updates from committees of interest<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/bi\/billsbysponsor\">follow your favorite legislators<\/a>, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/bi\/topicalindex\">look up bills by topic.<\/a>\u00a0If there\u2019s a bill that matters to you, you have the chance to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leg.wa.gov\/bills-meetings-and-session\/session\/how-to-testify-at-a-committee-meeting\/\">testify<\/a>\u00a0during its public hearing, either in person and remotely, or submit a written testimony online. Stephens.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Flood recovery resources<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The historic flooding that occurred late last year has been nothing short of devastating. Thankfully, floodwaters have receded, but we\u2019re only just starting to deal with the damage that\u2019s disrupted people\u2019s lives and businesses. Recovery will be a long and difficult journey, but our state is working tirelessly to ensure people have the assistance they need. As part of that effort, I wanted to share some resources to help folks in our district who\u2019ve been affected. I hope you\u2019ll find them useful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wa.gov\/how-to-guides\/historic-flood-emergency-financial-resources-and-recovery-washingtonians\"><strong>Wa.gov<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This resource hub includes information about getting cash assistance, housing and property assistance, livestock assistance, medication and medical equipment replacement, flood cleanup tips, and more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org\/about-us\/our-work\/disaster-relief\/flood-relief\/washington-floods-financial-assistance.html\"><strong>American Red Cross<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Red Cross may be able to help if your home was destroyed or sustained major structural damage by the flooding. They\u2019ve completed a damage assessment of impact areas across the region, and they\u2019re actively contacting people whose homes they\u2019ve confirmed were affected. If you or someone you know has been invited to apply for financial assistance, call 1-800-RED-CROSS to open a case.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/en\/shared-topics\/about-king-county\/flood-recovery\"><strong>Kingcounty.gov<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our county\u2019s flood recovery website has post-flood health and safety information translated into 26 languages. It also has resources for renters, property owners, and business owners affected by the flooding, including how to document and file an insurance claim.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/commissioners-eye-on-insurance\/insurance-tips-as-flood-recovery-begins-c1f2785f5ad2\"><strong>WA Insurance Commissioner\u2019s flood insurance tips<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our state\u2019s insurance commissioner has issued guidance and tips on starting a flood insurance claim, what to know about making repairs, and answers to other questions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kcemergency.com\/\"><strong>Kcemergency.com<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>King County Emergency News has the latest news on the flooding emergency and recover efforts.
