Hello neighbors,
Now that the 2026 legislative session has officially concluded, my seatmates and I have put together a newsletter highlighting all the great work we achieved this year. You should be receiving a printed copy in your mailbox. But If you haven’t received it, or you’d rather read it online, click here or on the image below.![]()
In the newsletter, you’ll learn about how we’re working to:
- Make Washington more affordable for working families and small businesses by building a fairer tax system.
- Defend and strengthen our democracy by protecting voter data and expanding access to secure voting services.
- Tackle the housing crisis by building more homes, cutting red tape, and investing in affordable housing.
- Protect immigrants and stand up to the federal government’s intimidation by prohibiting immigration agents from wearing face-concealing masks and using surveillance tools.
- Confront the climate crisis by protecting our environment, expanding transportation electrification, and investing in clean and renewable energy.
- Create thousands of good-paying jobs by investing more in preserving and maintaining our transportation infrastructure, from our ferries to highways.
Affordability wins and resources
Making life more affordable for Washingtonians is one of my main priorities as your state senator. We’ve done a lot of work recently to lower costs for families, including capping annual residential rent increases, capping the cost of insulin at $35, and expanding the Senior Citizen Property Tax program to an additional 30,000 seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.
We’ve made great progress, but there’s more work ahead to tackle the affordability crisis that’s straining Washingtonians’ wallets. As we prepare for the 2027 legislative session, I will continue working on proposals to help lower costs for families and small businesses. I’d also love to hear your thoughts on how the Legislature can do more to make life more affordable for everyone who calls our state home. Please contact me any time at Marko.Liias@leg.wa.gov.
I also wanted to highlight some great affordability resources that might be helpful, especially during tough times:
- Working Families Tax Credit: https://workingfamiliescredit.wa.gov
- Home energy assistance: https://www.commerce.wa.gov/community-opportunities/liheap/
- Home foreclosure prevention: https://dfi.wa.gov/foreclosure
- Housing and rental assistance: https://hasco.org/
- Financial aid for college, including the Washington College Grant: https://wsac.wa.gov/apply

Election-year ethics restrictions

I’m so honored and fortunate to work for you every day as your state senator. Although the work will continue, the way I’m able to communicate with you for the next several months will be changing.
Election-year ethics restrictions on official legislative communications begin on May 4, meaning that until the election results are certified this winter, I won’t be able to reach out to you via my newsletter or provide updates through my official Senate website or social media accounts.
However, I can still respond to calls and emails, so don’t hesitate to contact my office if you have questions about any legislative issue, have feedback, or just want to say hello. My office is also available to help resolve issues with state agencies or connect you to resources. Email me at Marko.Liias@leg.wa.gov or call my office at 360-786-7640. I hope to hear from you!
Sincerely,
