Sen. Marko Liias, D-Mukilteo, has been appointed the assistant ranking member on the Senate Transportation Committee, a move that gives him a role in writing the transportation budget and makes him the second-ranking Democrat on the committee.
“This puts me in a stronger position to address the needs of the 21st District as well as to help prioritize transportation projects in communities across the state,” Liias said. “This is very good news for residents of the 21st District.”
In the Democrats’ reorganization meeting on Monday, Liias also was appointed to serve on the Senate Higher Education Committee, a move that was applauded by Bob Drewel, the chancellor of Washington State University North Puget Sound at Everett.
“We’re excited to have a legislator with Sen. Liias’ track record taking a strong leadership role in expanding college opportunities here in Snohomish County,” Drewel said.
The third appointment involving Liias named him the ranking Democrat on the Senate Government Operations Committee, which covers the widest range of policies and traditionally hears the greatest number of bills of any committee in the Legislature.
