Karen Keiser (D-Des Moines) that would rein in sharply rising prescription drug prices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrescription drug costs are out of control,\u201d said Keiser. \u201cOur constituents can\u2019t wait. The taxpayers can\u2019t wait. We have to do something about this increase in costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three bills that the Senate passed take on insulin costs as well as costs for the most expensive prescriptions and those that are increasing in price the fastest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?billnumber=6087&amp;year=2019\">SB 6087<\/a> would cap out-of-pocket cost to patients for insulin at $100 per month. It passed on a vote of 34-14.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=6113&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2019\">SB 6113<\/a> would create a centralized purchasing process for insulin based on the approach used by the state to purchase childhood vaccines. It passed on a vote of 28-20.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?billnumber=6088&amp;year=2019\">SB 6088<\/a> would establish a prescription drug affordability board that would review prices and price increases to determine whether maximum price caps are needed. It passed on a vote of 28-20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe have a responsibility to keep prescriptions that are vital for people\u2019s health affordable,\u201d Keiser said. \u201cI\u2019ve been working for months with a broad range of stakeholders to put together legislation that will tackle this problem from multiple angles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All three bills now go to the House for consideration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate has passed three bills sponsored by Sen.
