Jay Inslee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5297&amp;Year=2019&amp;Initiative=false\">SB 5297<\/a> was sponsored by Sen. Sam Hunt (D-Olympia) at the request of the  Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General to address concerns about high turnover among assistant attorneys general.\u00a0 The bill grants assistant attorneys general the right to collectively bargain but does not require them to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Assistant attorneys general represent\nthe interests of the most vulnerable communities in Washington on issues such\nas civil rights, consumer protection and public safety. The agency also defends\nthe state against tort claims.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is the state\u2019s largest law firm,\nwith over 600 attorneys,\u201d said Hunt. \u201cLike most other state employees,\nrank-and-file attorneys should be allowed to collectively bargain.
