Jay Inslee will take\naction Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m. on two Access to Democracy bills\nintroduced this legislative session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5079&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2019\">ESSB\n5079<\/a>\nwill allow Native American voters living on reservations to use a tribal\nidentification card to register to vote online, and to use addresses of\ndesignated tribal buildings for registration. The bill also requires the state\nto support locations tribes designate as most appropriate for ballot drop boxes\nand voter registration support. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur democracy works best when we all\nhave the opportunity to participate,\u201d said the bill\u2019s sponsor, Sen. John McCoy\n(D-Tulalip). \u201cWhen entire communities are denied access to the ballot box,\nlawmakers need to take a look at systemic issues that need to be addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5273&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2019\">ESB\n5273<\/a>\nmoves the date of Washington\u2019s presidential primary to the second Tuesday in\nMarch, aligning it with nearly two dozen states across the country that are\nexpected to hold primaries or caucuses by that date. Sen. Sam Hunt (D-Olympia)\nis the bill\u2019s sponsor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe earlier date will make the\npresidential primary more meaningful in our state and will increase\nparticipation,\u201d said Hunt. \u201cIt also will enable the major political parties to\nuse primary election results instead of caucuses to allocate Washington\u2019s\nnational convention votes to presidential and vice presidential candidates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bill will also increase accessibility\nby providing for the replacement of caucuses with vote-by-mail primary\nelections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bill signings will be held in the Governor\u2019s Conference Room at            416 Sid Snyder Ave. SW, Suite 200, Olympia, WA 98504<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OLYMPIA \u2014Gov.
