They are a chance for all three of us to answer your questions directly, hear your concerns, and learn from your lived experiences. Your voice helps shape the work we do in Olympia, and we hope you will be able to join us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Standing up to harmful federal overreach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3207\" src=\"https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260303_151318cr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260303_151318cr.jpg 650w, https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260303_151318cr-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260303_151318cr-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This session, one of my top priorities was ensuring Washington continues to be a place where the rule of law is upheld, science and public health are respected, and every person, regardless of background, feels safe and supported.<\/p>\n<p>In recent months, we have seen troubling federal actions that challenge those principles, from attempts to interfere in state election systems to policies that put immigrant families and access to care at risk. These moments require us to respond thoughtfully, but also firmly.<\/p>\n<p>I am grateful for the leadership of our state\u2019s legal advocates, including Attorney General Nick Brown, who has continued working to challenge unlawful federal actions and defend the rights of Washingtonians. At the same time, the Legislature took meaningful steps to strengthen protections here at home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investing in stability and essential services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The supplemental operating budget we passed reflects our commitment to protecting the people most impacted by federal decisions. That includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expanding food assistance for tens of thousands of legally present immigrants excluded from federal nutrition programs<\/li>\n<li>Protecting access to reproductive and preventive health care by backfilling federal funding gaps<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining coverage for individuals with serious medical needs who might otherwise lose care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These investments are about stability, dignity, and making sure no one in our communities is left behind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strengthening protections in state law<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3208\" src=\"https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260211_155900cc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260211_155900cc.jpg 650w, https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260211_155900cc-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/hunt\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2026\/04\/20260211_155900cc-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alongside the budget, we passed a series of bills to safeguard civil liberties, improve accountability, and protect personal privacy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary\/?BillNumber=5855&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><strong>SB 5855<\/strong><\/a> strengthens transparency and accountability in law enforcement by prohibiting local, state, and federal officers from concealing their identities with face coverings and requiring them to remain clearly identifiable during public interactions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=2105&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><strong>HB 2105<\/strong><\/a> strengthens worker protections during federal immigration audits and establishes clear consequences for retaliation<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=6002&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><strong>SB 6002<\/strong><\/a> sets guardrails on automated license plate readers to protect privacy and prevent misuse<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=2242&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><strong>HB 2242<\/strong><\/a> ensures continued access to vaccines and preventive care based on guidance from the Washington State Department of Health<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5892&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><strong>SB 5892<\/strong><\/a> enhances voter privacy by protecting sensitive personal information<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=2165&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><strong>HB 2165<\/strong><\/a> addresses public safety by prohibiting the unauthorized use of law enforcement insignia<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5974&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\"><strong>SB 5974<\/strong><\/a> reinforces accountability standards for law enforcement leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taken together, these efforts send a clear message: when federal policies fall short, Washington state will step up.
