Dear friends and neighbors,\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of my\u00a0<\/span>top priorities<\/span>\u00a0in the Legislature has been helping improv<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0access to\u00a0<\/span>college and career training so people can get good jobs to support<\/span>\u00a0their\u00a0<\/span>families<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Today, I want to tell you about an exciting new bill\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019<\/span>m<\/span>\u00a0w<\/span>orking on with Rep. Julia Reed<\/span>: the \u201c<\/span>Washington\u00a0<\/span>Guaranteed Admissions Program<\/span>,\u201d where we will guarantee college admission to WSU, Western, and more for high school graduates with a 3.0 GPA.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many high school students already meet admissions requirements for our state\u2019s excellent public universities, but may not even know it. We want families to know right away\u2014as early as junior year\u2014that several of our public colleges and universities will\u00a0<\/span>guarantee\u00a0<\/span><\/i>admission to their high school student if their student keeps a 3.0 GPA and graduate. That will remove a big worry from the families of anxious high school students! The bill,\u00a0<\/span>SB 5978,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0would\u00a0expand our state\u2019s\u00a0already-existing\u00a0guaranteed admissions program and\u00a0ensure students are notified\u00a0that a college in our state is available to them.\u00a0<\/span>It would\u00a0guarantee college admission to WSU, Evergreen, Western, CWU, EWU, and UW-Tacoma\u00a0for\u00a0students who are on track to graduate with a 3.0.\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0also\u00a0make sure they know about our state\u2019s generous financial aid\u00a0programs\u00a0so they can afford to\u00a0attend.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
