OLYMPIA – The Senate Democratic Caucus today voted to confirm committee membership positions for the 2024 legislative session.

Sen. Drew Hansen, who was appointed to the Senate in August, joins three committees. Hansen (D-Bainbridge Island) will serve on Higher Education & Workforce Development, Labor & Commerce and Transportation.

Hansen served as the chair of the House Higher Education Committee from 2014-2020.

Sen. June Robinson (D-Everett) was selected to serve as chair of the Ways & Means Committee. Robinson had served as vice chair of the committee since 2020. Sen. Joe Nguyễn (D-White Center) will now serve as vice chair of the committee while Sen. Emily Randall (D-Bremerton) joins Ways & Means and comes off of Transportation.

The final change to committee membership is in Agriculture, Water, Natural Resources & Parks, which will add Sen. Marko Liias (D-Edmonds.)

On the Leadership front, Sen. Noel Frame (D-Seattle) was selected as assistant floor leader, taking over that role from Nguyễn.

Changes to committee membership became necessary when former Sen. Christine Rolfes left the Legislature following her appointment to the Kitsap County Commission in June. Rolfes had served as Ways & Means chair since 2018.

“I am excited to have these talented senators step into even more important roles in the Legislature,” said Senate Majority Leader Andy Billig (D-Spokane). “Our state is in good hands and with this team we can deliver real results for the people of Washington on the issues that affect their lives most – housing affordability, public safety, a great education for every student, access to health care and more.”

Committee assignments will become official following a vote of the full Senate on the first day of the 2024 legislative session. The 60-day session will begin Jan. 8.
