Dear neighbors,<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are living through a wave of hate crimes against Asian Americans that we must bring to a halt.<\/p>\n

Hate crimes are not only horrific acts of violence affecting individual victims and their families\u2014they are a poison in our civil society by making whole communities feel unwelcome.<\/p>\n

Each and every one of us must speak out against these abhorrent acts and the ugly beliefs that inspire them.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the Senate unanimously affirmed with Resolution 8610<\/a> that we stand in solidarity with Asian American and Pacific Islander communities affected by the rising threat of hate crimes.<\/p>\n

As the resolution says<\/a>, and I repeated on the floor of the Senate<\/a>: Nobody who calls Washington home should live in fear because of who they are, how they are perceived, or what part of the world they or their families came from.<\/p>\n

If you or someone you know experiences a hate crime, please know that you can contact the\u00a0Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs<\/a>\u00a0or the\u00a0Washington Attorney General\u2019s Office<\/a>\u00a0for help.<\/p>\n
