Manka Dhingra was recognized by the Washington\nbranch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI WA) for her work as\nchair of the Senate\u2019s Behavioral Health Subcommittee and for her commitment to\nimproving the entirety of Washington\u2019s behavioral health system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of her work, the\nRedmond lawmaker was selected as one of NAMI WA\u2019s 2019 Behavioral Health\nChampions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Sen. Dhingra played a\npivotal role in improving our state&#8217;s behavioral health system,&#8221; said Brad\nForbes, NAMI WA\u2019s Director of Public Policy &amp; Advocacy.&nbsp;&#8220;Her\nimportant work on medical privacy and improving the Involuntary Treatment Act\nwill reduce the stigma of mental illness and help patients for years to\ncome.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senate Democrats placed an\nintensified focus of the state\u2019s behavioral health system with the creation of\nthe Behavioral Health Subcommittee. As chair, Dhingra saw through numerous\npolicies to invest in the state\u2019s behavioral health facilities, support\nservices and training opportunities for prospective behavioral health\nprofessionals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am so proud of the work we\ndid in the Senate to not only invest in our state\u2019s behavioral health system,\nbut really to start looking at this issue through a modern, evidence-based\nlens,\u201d Dhingra said. \u201cEvery family has been touched by a behavioral health\nissue in some way. We must speak openly and thoughtfully about it and ensure\nthat we have an early intervention system that leaves no one behind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThank you to everyone who\nworked so hard on this issue this year, and thank you to my friends at NAMI for\nyour long history of advocacy for people and families in crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dhingra has been on the board\nof NAMI-Eastside since 2010 and is a past President of that organization\u2019s\nBoard of Directors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other recipients of the 2019\nBehavioral Health Champion award include: Rep.
