Dear neighbors,

In the past legislative session, we made our justice system more responsive to the trauma of survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. We modernized civil protection orders, supported survivors of domestic violence strangulation, and vacated sentences for survivors.

But we have much more work to do. We have a continual duty to help survivors reclaim their lives and move forward in a positive way, to understand that trauma exerts itself as a reaction and not just a memory. And that means we have to listen to the voices of those most affected.

Please join me for a virtual town hall discussion on legal barriers and solutions for survivors of domestic violence, at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

The discussion will feature special guests:

  • Grace Huang, Director of Policy, Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence
  • Riddhi Mukhopadhyay, Executive Director, Sexual Violence Law Center
  • Sandra Shanahan, Program Manager, King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office – Regional Domestic Violence Firearms Enforcement Unit

Please RSVP at https://bit.ly/DVdiscussion2021.
