When I’m not working for you in the Senate, I spend a lot of time reading and studying history. I studied it as a college student and enjoy learning everything I can about the history of our state and city.
I was honored to be a part of Tacoma’s 150th anniversary celebration. The Tacoma Historical Society, which does tremendous and important work researching and preserving the history of our great city, honored me with their Star of Destiny Award.
I was flattered to receive this honor, which they said was for my history of work in the legislature securing living wages, safe workplaces and fair benefits for people living in our city and state.
It was such a fun night seeing so many friends and colleagues and together celebrating our great city. It also served as a reminder of the importance of history, particularly at a moment when there are many attempting to rewrite or erase the details of how we got here and the deeds, or misdeeds, of the past.
