Dear friends and neighbors,

The 2025 legislative session is underway, and I wanted to share a quick note with you about my new role as a senator after many years working for you in the House of Representatives.

I’m proud my colleagues selected me to serve as chair of the Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, a job I held for the last four years in the House. I also sit on the Transportation and Health & Long-Term Care committees and will also serve as deputy chair of the capital budget, which funds state construction projects like schools and affordable housing.

If you know me, you know my priorities — I want to balance the budget without unnecessary tax increases and make sure you and your family have access to affordable health care and that the government keeps its nose out of your reproductive choices.

Through my work on the Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee, I’ll continue to look for more ways to balance a healthy environment while creating good-paying jobs in our rural communities.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

There are a lot of ways to make your voice heard during the 2025 legislative session. Below you will find a variety of helpful resources that make it easy for you to be part of the process, from start to finish:

Our democracy is at its best when everyone takes part. Your participation has always been vital to our state government, and I encourage you to explore these resources and keep connected.

BECOME A SENATE PAGE

Last week, I had the opportunity to sponsor Meredith Smith as a Senate page. Meredith is a junior at Elma High School and enjoys soccer, baking, and playing with her dog. She said her favorite part of the week working on the Senate floor and meeting senators and staff.

The Senate Page Program is still accepting applications for 2025. Open to students 14-16 years old, this fun, week-long experience includes page school, assisting senators, and learning about the legislative process — all while getting paid. Scholarships and host family housing are available too.
