{"id":995,"date":"2017-04-17T20:04:08","date_gmt":"2017-04-17T20:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sdc.wastateleg.org\/billig\/?p=897"},"modified":"2020-11-18T14:17:32","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T21:17:32","slug":"e-news-bottom-of-the-9th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/senatedemocrats.wa.gov\/billigarchive\/2017\/04\/17\/e-news-bottom-of-the-9th\/","title":{"rendered":"E News- Bottom of the 9th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Working Collaboratively<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are starting the final week of the 2017 legislative session.<\/p>\n<p>In the past two weeks, we have passed meaningful and bipartisan legislation, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5086&amp;Year=2017\">Capital<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5096&amp;Year=2017\">Transportation<\/a> budgets.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=1713&amp;Year=2017\">House Bill 1713<\/a> \u2013 providing Washington\u2019s kids with better mental health treatment and services.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=1234&amp;Year=2017\">House Bill 1234<\/a> \u2013 a great bill for the women of Washington. It requires insurance carriers to reimburse refills for birth control for 12 months at a time instead of monthly.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5022&amp;Year=2017\">Senate Bill 5022<\/a> &#8211; request legislation from Attorney General Bob Ferguson requiring clear debt information for student loan&nbsp;borrowers.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5107&amp;Year=2017\">Senate Bill 5107<\/a> \u2013 creating greater access to high quality early learning for the kids that need it most.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Operating Budget<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the operating budget, Senate Republicans have so far refused to begin negotiations on a final budget solution. We\u2019ve shown we can get things done when we work together and we can solve the operating budget challenge too.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not to say it will be easy. Both Democrats and Republicans have proposed new taxes to balance their budget proposals. What&#8217;s different is how we choose to invest that revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, there is not an operating budget proposal that will muster the 50 House votes and 25 Senate votes required to go home.&nbsp;What&#8217;s most important is that&nbsp;we find&nbsp;a common&nbsp;middle ground that is fiscally responsible, makes our tax code fairer, and delivers for Washingtonians.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keeping Your Private Info Private<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recently back in D.C., Congress voted to roll back protections that keep internet providers from selling your search history and other personal web related information. That\u2019s why I co-sponsored legislation <a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5919&amp;Year=2017\">(SB 5919)<\/a> that would block this kind of data collection in Washington state. The bill has bipartisan support and I am&nbsp;hopeful we can pass this bill before&nbsp;we adjourn&nbsp;so we can protect every Washingtonian\u2019s right to privacy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep in Touch<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I value your input as we work to improve opportunity and prosperity in Spokane and our state.
