Dear friends and neighbors,

As you know, this Friday is the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. It is hard to believe that 25 years have passed since that tragic day, and this is an opportunity to remember and reflect upon the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the courage of those who responded to help. In a moment of disaster, our first responders led the way up smoke-filled stairwells to help and save others – many of them at the cost of their own lives, along with ordinary people who stepped up as heroes to save others on that awful day. 343 members of the New York Fire Department lost their lives on September 11th, and more than 600 firefighters and emergency responders have passed away since due to conditions associated with the disaster.

This anniversary offers us a day to recommit to the promise to never forget, and to honor and remember the service and sacrifice of those who responded to save others. It is also a day to remember our shared humanity and the connections that bind us together, which are stronger than those that would tear us apart. You may want to do this privately or in a public way, depending on your personal feelings and preferences.

The Lacey Fire Department will be hosting a remembrance event and flag-raising ceremony this Friday morning at 6:45 AM, at the Station 31 Headquarters at 1231 Franz St SE, Lacey WA 98503. Please use the south entrance for parking and the gathering will be at the north side. Everyone is welcome to join.

Thank you for reading and for honoring this important anniversary.

In service,

Jess
