Rebecca Salda\u00f1a, D-Seattle, released the following statement after the Senate Transportation Committee moved <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5008&amp;Year=2017\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1\">Senate Bill 5008<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\">, regarding Real ID, out of committee:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype',serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cWe already have other options for compliance, including enhanced drivers\u2019 licenses. Marking standard licenses so citizenship is unclear leads to a number of issues, including the possibility people will simply drive without licenses or without insurance. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype',serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cI offered an amendment that would have helped ensure Department of Licensing staff were better trained and supported to deal with new policies, and data was kept secure \u2013 something more important if the bill passes. The amendment was voted down. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Palatino Linotype',serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cI greatly appreciate the years of stakeholder engagement and our state\u2019s long-term commitment to ensuring the safety and inclusion of all our residents.
