Jay Inslee approved the creation of a committee to address\nsafety in the application of pesticides in Washington. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5550&amp;Year=2019&amp;Initiative=False\">Senate Bill 5550<\/a>, sponsored by Sen.\nRebecca Salda\u00f1a (D-Seattle), will establish a Pesticide Application Safety\nCommittee to examine how state agencies collect and track data related to the\napplication of pesticides, and evaluate how the development of a shared\ndatabase would improve the display of this data. The committee will also\nexplore policy recommendations for related issues such as improving the safety\nof pesticide application and the communication of information to the\nagricultural community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committee\nestablished by this legislation will contain representatives from the Legislature,\nstate agencies that oversee pesticide application, and agricultural experts\nfrom Washington State University and the University of Washington. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis\nlegislation is the result of a lot of hard work done during the interim by a\nbipartisan work group of stakeholders and legislators from both chambers,\u201d said\nSalda\u00f1a. \u201cThis committee will help us to use new technology and farming methods\nto promote best practices and training to achieve as close to zero pesticide\ndrift as possible, protecting workers and surrounding communities from\nexposure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ncommittee\u2019s initial report to the Legislature will be submitted in January\n2020, and it will subsequently submit yearly reports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OLYMPIA \u2013 Yesterday Gov.
