Deb Krishnadasan (D-Gig Harbor),\u00a0will\u00a0expand the Senior Citizen Property Tax Relief Program to an\u00a0additional\u00a030,000\u00a0households.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe most common thing I hear from our neighbors is that we need to make life more affordable, especially for those living on low and fixed incomes,\u201d Krishnadasan said. \u201cWe have a responsibility to make sure our seniors, people with disabilities, and disabled veterans can continue living in the homes they worked so hard to establish. This bill expands the property tax exemption program, extending this relief to an estimated 5,000 more households in the 26th District, while also increasing the exemption for those who already qualify. That means more grandparents, veterans and people with disabilities can remain in their homes with dignity, stability, and financial security. I\u2019m so proud to bring this much-needed relief to those who need it most.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to lowering the qualification standard for the program, it simplifies the application process by replacing itemized deductions\u00a0with a standard $7,500 deduction\u00a0per person\u00a0and $6,000\u00a0in rental income.\u00a0The\u00a0program includes those with disabilities and\u00a0disabled veterans.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cSeniors built the communities we live in today, and they deserve a property tax relief program that keeps up with the rising cost of living,\u201d said\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/housedemocrats.wa.gov\/wylie\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Rep. Sharon Wylie<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(D-Vancouver), who sponsored\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=2621&amp;Chamber=House&amp;Year=2025\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">companion legislation<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in the House. \u201cThis measure modernizes our property tax structure, expands the program so more seniors and people with disabilities can stay in their homes, and improves transparency. Allowing seniors the rental income without it counting against their eligibility for property tax relief is a practical step that can make a real difference for people living on fixed incomes.
