Here\u2019s what has been happening in my office the past two weeks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inspiring future leaders \u2014 answering questions from visiting Peninsula School District NJROTC students and hosting Senate pages. Elise, a junior from Gig Harbor High School, enjoys speech and debate. Sara, a Peninsula High School student, likes cooking and baking and wants to study either medicine or law. Come join us for a week and get an inside look at the legislative process. <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/pageapplication\">Apply here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Supporting our s<\/strong><strong>chools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Senate is hard at work to secure funding for the big three asks from our schools \u2014 special education, materials and supplies, and transportation. I sit on the Senate Early Learning &amp; K-12 Education Committee, and we\u2019ve moved forward three bills \u2014 SBs <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5187&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">5187<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary\/?BillNumber=5192&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">5192<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary\/?BillNumber=5263&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">5263<\/a> \u2014 to secure that key funding and hope to hear them soon on the floor518751925263. I also introduced SB <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5186&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">5186<\/a>, which would lower the threshold for school bonds to pass from 60% to 55%. This bill is paired with SJM <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=8200&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">8200<\/a> \u2014 a vote on both is expected in executive session soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Testifying on m<\/strong><strong>y bills<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=8008&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">SJM 8008<\/a> rescinds all previous Washington state requests to Congress for a Constitutional Convention.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5508&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">SB 5508<\/a> expands housing support for families once the Department of Children, Youth, and Families is no longer providing other services to the family.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5557&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">SB 5557<\/a> codifies emergency rules that protect a pregnant person\u2019s right to get treatment for emergency medical conditions.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5245&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">SB 5245<\/a> allows commissioners and council members to administer oaths of office for state legislators.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=5522&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">SB 5522<\/a> expands the State Capitol Committee and reorganizes responsibilities regarding the Capitol campus.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/BillSummary\/?BillNumber=8606&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=false\">SR 8606<\/a> celebrates the Washington National Guard soldiers and airmen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Building relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My office met with 55 groups over the last two weeks including Teamsters 117, Peninsula Community Health Services, Washington State Tree Fruit Association, Tacoma Firefighters Local 31, WSPA, SEIU 1199, Family Connects, and many more. Thank you to everyone who has come down!<\/p>\n<p><strong>My priorities <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As your senator, I want to support our schools and students, lower the cost of living, increase access to childcare, create workforce development opportunities, protect rights and freedoms in our state, and focus on solutions to address some of our district\u2019s transportation issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are so many more things to share with you all in the coming weeks! I look forward to discussing the relationships I\u2019m building and actions I\u2019m taking to improve our ferry service. Just recently, I submitted a bill (SB <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5716&amp;Year=2025&amp;Initiative=False\">5716<\/a>) to help protect our Washington State Ferry workers.
