Dear Neighbors of the 26th,

Thank you for reading along this session. As usual, I’m working hard to represent you in Olympia and across the district. Keep reading for more information on the following:

Town halls

Thank you to all 400 of you who took time and attended one of my four town halls. It was wonderful to see everyone and meet so many neighbors.

Your main concerns were what is being done at the state level in response to the federal government, what is (and isn’t) included in the state budget, how taxes are evolving in the budget process, and how we’re prioritizing education funding.

Your questions were thoughtful, and I want to be clear: I am dedicated to making life more affordable for people in the 26th. That commitment guides every conversation I have and every vote I take. Along with ensuring quality education for our students, it’s my top priority this session.

Sales tax cut

A few weeks ago, I introduced Senate Bill 5795, which would decrease the state sales tax from 6.5% to 6% — the state’s first sales tax reduction in over 40 years. I am committed to making this reduction a reality and will do all I can to shift the tax burden away from everyday working people in our state.

Please contact my office with any questions, comments, or concerns as we navigate the budget process.

West Sound Technical Skills Center

After advocating for the expansion of West Sound Technical Skills Center (WST) before the Senate Saturday, I had the opportunity to tour the WST facility in Bremerton on Sunday. WST offers essential trades training to over 600 students from 10 school districts, and with the campus expansion, that number will grow to 1,000 students. The center provides hands-on, career-connected learning experiences — helping students stay engaged in their education. In addition, students learn the technical knowledge and skills to prepare them for advanced placement in apprenticeships, technical schools, two- and four-year colleges, or go directly to entry-level employment in their career interest area. I remain committed to supporting the trades and expanding opportunities for students!

Status of my bills

All seven of my bills are still moving! Six are in the House of Representatives, waiting for a floor vote. After that, they’re off to the governor’s desk! A seventh bill is in the Senate Ways & Means Committee and is part of the overall budget process.

Budget

The budget process is ongoing in Olympia, with the goal of finalizing and voting on the state budget by the end of April. Discussions are actively taking place between all parties in both the Senate and the House as we work toward a balanced and effective budget that serves the needs of all Washingtonians. Stay tuned for more updates as we move closer to finalizing this important process.
