Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced more than $14 million in grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for programs providing energy efficiency upgrades to middle income homes and small businesses in Washington.
Eight private and public projects across the state – including Pioneer Human Services, the Opportunity Council, the City of Ellensburg, Snohomish County PUD, Sustainable Living Center, Sustainable Works, the Thurston Economic Development Council, and Clark Public Utilities – were selected by an independent review committee based on their ability to:
We should take a closer look at wind power 10/6/2009
Renewable energy resources, especially wind, will be an essential part of our in-state energy production to meet future needs and help our state be energy independent.
We have already developed most of our hydropower potential and do not have commercial reserves of oil and natural gas, so we need to be exploring other energy sources. We do have abundant wind power potential that can provide jobs and business opportunities.

Jobs are already being created by the key weatherization bill passed last session. Community group Sound Alliance has been a great partner in the creation and implementation of Senate Bill 5649. They are one of many local groups applying for approximately $15 million recovery dollars that will be distributed over the next two years for energy efficiency improvements. Senate Bill 5649 creates the process for local companies to apply for this money through the Washington State University Energy Program. For information on the program, click here.

Thank you for visiting my website. Please make yourself “at home” and take time to browse the information you will find that updates the work of the Legislature, including my own efforts to be your advocate on issues important to you and your family and community.
It is an honor to serve and represent the people of the 23rd Legislative District (estimated population of 130,000), which is located in the northern and central areas of Kitsap County. For more specific information on its boundaries and communities, please refer to the ‘District Map’ link at the top of my homepage.
I have lived on Bainbridge Island in Kitsap for more than 37 years. My wife, Anita, and I have raised our three daughters — Rebecca, Melissa, and Airyka — here, and we love the Kitsap Peninsula, its proud Navy traditions , its historic and diverse communities, and of course, its Puget Sound and Hood Canal shorelines and landscapes.
As I travel around the district and our state to learn how state government can be a better partner in your future, I appreciate the “can do” spirit and resilience of people who make Washington a great place to live, work, and raise a family. The willingness of citizens to look out for one another and help others to improve their lives is a big reason why this is such a remarkable state. In good times and not-so-good, we can count on this spirit and strength to see us through to a brighter future.
Thank you, also, for allowing me to work on the challenges of our time: to improve education, to assure access to affordable health care and housing, to protect our unique and fragile environmental resources, and to promote conditions for a strong local economy which grows business and job opportunities.
Sincerely,
Phil Rockefeller
